Postal staff call for junk mail ban to lessen coronavirus dangers | Scotland

Postal workers are demanding a junk mail ban as staff struggle to maintain a safe distance in sorting rooms and vans.

Andrew Gair, a postman, said that it was “business as usual” in the Bridge of Don delivery office, Aberdeen, on Monday, the day the first minister put Scotland into lockdown.

Postal workers were still deployed two to a van and pictures show personnel sorting letters in close proximity.

Binmen walked out yesterday amid fears they were putting themselves at risk with as many as four in a cab. South Lanarkshire council said a “temporary suspension” had taken place. Collections are due to resume today.
