Postie shares what inside of postbox actually looks like – and you’ll be surprised

A Royal Mail postal worker has spilled on the tricks of the trade, including a video of what it looks like inside the iconic red postboxes dotted around Britain.

In a video, TikTok user LilyThePostie @lilylangton1 shows how she collects letters from a postbox and many viewers said they’d secretly been itching to know.

Firstly, she picks a key from the chain and opens up the red door, revealing a metal cage inside.

Lily then flips the metal sign around from “Wednesday” to “Thursday” to show when the next collection will be.

There is also a barcode, which Lily scans to show she has emptied the post box.

Many viewers were surprised with how it looked inside

Next, she opens the bottom of the metal cage which keeps the mail from spilling out and empties the letters and birthday cards into her sack.

The footage has been watched more than 390,000 times on the video-sharing app and thousands of curious people have left comments wanting to know more.

“Do they all use the same key?” asks one person.

A second asked: “Where are the rest of the days to switch? Are they in the post box or do you carry them around?”

Lily replied: “If you look closely at the bottom of the door there is a small box with the metal bits.”

Meanwhile, other people thanks Lily for telling them something they’d always wondered about.

“Ahh I’ve always wanted to know what is inside a post box and now my life has been fulfilled,” wrote one.

Someone else commented: “Thanks for sharing for some reason I’ve always wanted to know.”

“I don’t know why I never thought what was in post box… I just at 28 thought it was magic,” joked another viewer.

This comes after Royal Mail announced it was introducing a new 75p service for collecting parcels from your home, rather than having to go to the post office.

Meanwhile, a devastated student told of how she was conned by fraudsters pretending to be from Royal Mail and Lloyds bank.
