Postie successfully delivers letter with only ‘somewhere in the Yorkshire Dales’ to go by

A chef has been amazed after Royal Mail delivered a letter with clues to his identity, including the SUV he drove, scribbled on the envelope instead of an address.

Mark Dale, 53, was sent a new recipe by Facebook friend Andy Pem who wrote he was “not sure” where he lived.

The letter was addressed to: “Chef Mark Dale, somewhere in the Yorkshire Dales. Likes 4×4 Pajeros, curly haired lad. Some Top hotel chef, might be where the lock in due to snow was. Not sure.”.

Mark, who lives in Settle, North Yorkshire, was impressed with Royal Mail sleuthing when he received a letter a few years ago when he was working in Caversham.

It was addressed to: “The house in Upper Caversham with a broken down front wall and loads of lorries and trucks parked on the drive.”

When Mr Pem then contacted Mark on social media to say he had sent him a letter to him with a recipe in and an 88p stamp, but without a proper address.

Mark expected the recipe to take weeks to arrive.

Three days later, Mark was stunned to be contacted on Facebook by a woman who was a manager at the Royal Mail who recognised his name on the envelope and asked for his address.

Mark refused to give it to her to put her bosses detective work to the test. On Thursday this week, it arrived special delivery – four days after posting.

“So well done Royal Mail, and thank you, Nicola Bielby, the lady who commented from Royal Mail, and put a compliments slip in,” he said.
