Postmen and women in Staffordshire are being put at risk of catching coronavirus from people taking home tests and putting them in the wrong post boxes.
The key workers do not collect the home tests kits, where people have taken the swaps at home and send them back. These test kits are meant to be left in the ‘priority’ postboxes not ordinary ones.
The postal staff who work out of the Biddulph sorting office are not expected to collect from the ‘priority’ postboxes, this is the job of the Royal Mail employees based in the Stoke on Trent office.
But some of the home test kits are ending up in the wrong postboxes, reports Stoke on Trent Live.
Now Royal Mail’s Biddulph manager has issued a plea to residents to make sure they use the designated postboxes to protect his staff.
He said: “We all know Covid-19 is on the rise and we are seeing a lot more home testing kits in our postboxes.
“The problem we’re facing in Biddulph at the moment is that not everyone is using the labelled ‘priority postboxes’ for the tests to be posted in to.

“This is exposing my staff to increased risk when emptying them as the personal protection equipment is not always present and they are not expected to handle these items as there are set duties at Royal Mail Stoke who empty those priority boxes.
“We’re doing our best for you during this pandemic with reduced staffing levels so my plea to you is that you keep my postmen and women safe so that they can continue to deliver to you as often as we can.
“Stay safe all and thank you.”
