Postie’s plea after ‘unprovoked’ dog attack inflicts gruesome injury

A postal worker has pleaded with the public to “lock away” their dogs after an “unprovoked attack” left her with a gruesome injury.

JoJo Knight was delivering post for Royal Mail in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, on Monday (July 22) when she was attacked.

She then spent five hours at the Royal United Hospital in Bath awaiting treatment for a gaping wound.

She has shared her story and a photo of her injury on social media in the hope of raising awareness.

Be warned – the picture of her injury below is not for the faint-hearted.

‘Unprovoked’ dog attack

JoJo Knight said the experience had been ‘traumatic’.

She added: “While at work found myself the victim of an unprovoked dog attack! The shock and the pain were unreal.

“But after five hours at Bath RUH holding my arm in the air, asking for more pain relief then watching her stuff all my fatty tissue back in my arm to steri strip it together I’m finally home and fixed up rattling with pain killers and antibiotics.”

She continued in a social media post: “I’m sorry if you find this content disturbing but I think it’s important I educate people of my experience!

“I seriously worry how this is going to now mentally affect me. My fear of dogs is now off the scale!

“So I’m please asking you if you have a dog no matter how sweet or small or innocent, keep it locked away when a postie is at your door.

“From now on when I meet a dog it will be on my terms not yours!”

Ms Knight has received hundreds of comments of support from the public calling on dog owners to be more responsible.

Other postal workers have also been sharing their own stories of dog attacks.
