PostNL to add 500 lockers to growing out-of-home network

An additional 500 parcel lockers will be added to PostNL’s out-of-home delivery network this year, enabling customers to choose where and when they want to receive their parcels.

According to PostNL, almost everyone in the Netherlands will now have a PostNL service point within 1km of their home, with over 6,700 service points including 1,100 parcel lockers available across the country.

PostNL is investing €10m (US$10.8m) in the expansion of its parcel locker networks, as the demand for out-of-home delivery options continues to rise.

“We are seeing a strong increase in the use of parcel lockers and pickup points,” confirmed Barry Husman, director of retail at PostNL. “The number of parcels delivered via parcel lockers has grown by 97% in recent years. Consumers find them convenient and are increasingly setting parcel lockers as their preferred delivery option.”

In addition to increasing the number of parcel lockers and service points, PostNL is also focusing on technological innovations. The latest parcel lockers are modular, allowing for easy customization of their size and layout based on specific location needs. Moreover, these parcel lockers are integrated into an innovative IT platform, making them accessible to third party carriers.

PostNL is also developing sustainable solutions, such as solar-powered parcel lockers, enabling expansion even in locations without direct power supply.
