Prince Andrew has ‘shut the door on Jeffrey Epstein probe’

Prince Andrew has ‘shut the door on Jeffrey Epstein probe despite very public offer to cooperate’, US Attorney claims

  • US attorney Geoffrey Berman made the claims in a recent interview about probe
  • Investigators have been trying to reach Andrew for months about Epstein
  • Epstein, 66, died by suicide last August while in prison awaiting sex assault trial

Prince Andrew has allegedly refused to cooperate with the Jeffrey Epstein probe in the US despite publicly offering to help.

US Attorney Geoffrey Berman said, ‘Prince Andrew has now completely shut the door on voluntary cooperation,’ in an interview with NBC.

Investigators have been trying to reach Andrew for months in connection with Epstein’s sexual abuse accusations.

Epstein, 66, died by suicide last August while in prison awaiting a trial on sex trafficking charges and a potential sex trafficking ring.

In a notorious car-crash BBC interview last autumn, Andrew vehemently denied allegations that he had sex with Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who says she was trafficked by Epstein when she was 17 and forced to have sexual interactions with the prince.

Andrew said he did not remember ever meeting her and claimed he was at Pizza Express with his daughter on the day that Virginia alleges the sexual encounter took place, despite a photograph showing him with his arm around her.

Earlier this year Berman said: ‘He publicly offered, indeed in a press release, offered to cooperate with law enforcement investigating the crimes committed by Jeffrey Epstein and his co-conspirators.’

He added that so far Andrew has provided ‘zero cooperation’.

A spokesman for Prince Andrew from Buckingham Palace said: ‘This issue is being dealt with by The Duke of York’s legal team.

‘Buckingham Palace will not be commenting further on this particular matter.’

In an exclusive interview with The Mail on Sunday at the end of last month, David Boies said further evidence linking the Duke of York with Ms Roberts will be made public as part of a string of civil lawsuits being brought in America by victims of serial paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

His comments came after the newspaper revealed that a highly respected former Royal protection officer has raised questions about Andrew’s ‘alibi’ for the night he allegedly had sex with Ms Roberts in London.

Ms Roberts claims that she was flown to London by Epstein in March 2001 when she was 17 and coerced into having sex with the Duke. This was the first of three alleged sexual encounters with the Prince.

Andrew, 60, has categorically denied the claims, and in November he told Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis: ‘I have no recollection of ever meeting this lady, none whatsoever.’

In an interview with Dateline last year, Ms Giuffre said: ‘I just couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe that even royalty were involved.

‘He was a prince. He was famous. It just stuck out in my mind. I grew up watching Disney, and princesses and princes were the good people in the world, and he wasn’t.’
