Prince Andrew to lose ‘Prince’ title, Buckingham Palace says

It comes as His Majesty King Charles has today (October 30) initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.

The Royal family member will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

He will also move out of the Royal Lodge in Windsor.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

“His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence.

“Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.

“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.”

Buckingham Palace added: “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”

It is understood that although Andrew denies the accusations, Buckingham Palace considers that there have been “serious lapses of judgment”.

Prince Andrew will move to a property on the Sandringham Estate, reports suggest.

Any future accommodation will be privately funded by the King.

It was announced earlier this month that Prince Andrew would stop using his remaining titles and honours, including the Duke of York, in the wake of the Epstein scandal with immediate effect.

The latest development came just days before the publication of a memoir by Andrew’s late alleged victim, Virginia Giuffre, to whom he paid millions to settle a civil sexual assault case.
