The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have wished the public a ‘safe and fun’ Halloween in an adorable social media post.

Prince Harry, 35, and Meghan Markle, 38, took to the Sussex Royal Instagram page and shared a picture from their trip to New Zealand last year, along with the caption:

‘Wishing you all a safe and fun Halloween from our family (and our little pumpkin) to yours.’

The little pumpkin in question refers to their five-month-old son Archie Harrison, who stole the show during the couple’s recent ten-day tour of South Africa.

The photograph they chose to share, which has since been liked 157, 000 times, was taken last year when they attended a special effects workshop in Wellington, New Zealand.

At the time, the couple had just announced the Duchess’ pregnancy.

And while many royal fans were quick to take to the comments section to praise the post and the caption, others were gutted that they didn’t opt to upload a snap with Archie.

‘A very happy first Halloween to Master Archie from all of us with love,’ wrote one, while a second penned:

‘When I saw the notification I thought it was a picture of king Archie in a superman costume (because he is amazing like that). Anyways, I guess this is OK too. Happy Halloween.’

A third added: ‘I need pics of Archie in a pumpkin costume STAT,’ while a fourth commented: ‘I was really hoping to see Archie dressed up.’

A further predicated: ‘I bet Archie will have the cutest costume.’

Meghan and Harry visited the special-effects complex on the second day of their New Zealand tour on 28 October 2018.

For the occasion, Meghan sported a stylish £520 (AU$939/US$666) white tuxedo dress by New Zealand designer Maggie Marilyn.

This visit took place only a few weeks after the royals announced that she was pregnant with their son Archie, who is now five-months-old.

Archie attended his first royal engagement on 25 September with his parents, who stepped out to meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Mrs Tutu at their legacy foundation in Cape Town
