Prince Harry and Meghan’s secret meeting with Spider-Man stars Tom Holland and Zendaya

Who are the most talked-about couple in the world right now? The Duke and Duchess of Sussex no doubt like to think it’s them, but really that accolade goes to another British personality and his American girlfriend, Tom Holland and Zendaya.

Their star turn in Spider-Man: No Way Home has helped the film become one of the biggest hits of all time, taking £1.27 billion at box offices around the world since its release just before Christmas.

Now, I hear that Prince Harry and Meghan want some of the screen pair’s stardust to rub off on themselves.

I can reveal that the royal couple contacted Holland and Zendaya out of the blue and asked to meet.

‘Tom and Zendaya were rather bemused, from what I hear,’ one of Harry’s old friends tells me.

‘Tom had never met Harry or spoken to him in his life, so didn’t know what they wanted.’

Nevertheless, the actors agreed to meet the Sussexes, who live in Montecito, California. ‘The meeting took place,’ claims the source.

Managing to conduct the get-together amid complete secrecy was a major achievement for the two couples.

It’s unclear why Harry and former actress Meghan were so keen to meet Holland and Zendaya, but they may have hoped to persuade them to take part in one of their media projects.

This week, it was reported audio giant Spotify was taking production of the Sussexes’ pet project into its own hands.

The couple were signed up in an £18 million podcast deal a year ago but have so far produced only one show.

If the world’s biggest showbusiness couple could be persuaded to appear on their podcast, it would be a major coup for Harry and Meghan.

Tom, the son of comedian Dominic Holland and photographer Nikki, grew up in Kingston-upon-Thames, 11 miles away from Kensington Palace, where Harry was raised.

He attended a comprehensive school while Harry went to £44,000-per-year Eton College.

The royal couple are known to court entertainment stars assiduously. At their Windsor wedding in 2018, some of Harry’s old friends were surprised to see famous actors and TV personalities they didn’t know had ever met the prince.

At the wedding ceremony, Princess Diana’s former flatmate, Carolyn Bartholomew, was said to have turned to Hollywood star George Clooney and wife Amal, who were seated alongside her, and asked how they knew Harry or Meghan. ‘We don’t,’ the Clooneys reportedly answered, according to Boris Johnson’s journalist sister, Rachel.

Tragedy strikes Downton’s Dame Penelope

Dame Penelope Wilton, who stars in the forthcoming film Downton Abbey: A New Era, has been left ‘heartbroken’ after the death of her beloved sister Rosemary.

‘It’s very difficult at the moment,’ says the actress, 75, who plays Maggie Smith’s sparring partner Isobel Crawley in the hit costume drama. ‘My elder sister Rosemary died two months ago. She was 80. She’d had a lot of falls, caught Covid, and went into hospital. She came out, but had got a chest infection, so went back in and died. We are heartbroken.’

Curiously, Dame Penelope and her surviving sister, Lindy, were both married to the same man, the late actor Daniel Massey.

Lindy exchanged vows with Massey two years after he and the actress were divorced.

‘It was odd to begin with but I got used to it,’ Wilton later remarked.

Withering in his dismissal of contestants on The X Factor, Simon Cowell’s own musical choices caused much amusement during his recent stay in the Caribbean.

‘Cowell often brings his boat close to our beach, then goes out on his jet ski,’ reports soprano Melinda Hughes, who lives in Barbados. ‘

The other day, as the boat pulled in, they played The Wheels On The Bus at full blast.’ She adds: ‘I was expecting something a bit more rock ‘n’ roll, to be honest.’ Presumably, the song was chosen by Cowell’s seven-year-old son, Eric?

Earl Spencer has lived at Althorp for most of his life, but has revealed that it still doesn’t feel like home.

Princess Diana’s brother says: ‘Althorp has always been a magnificent project rather than a home. It’s a family headquarters, part of the nation’s heritage.’

Charles Spencer — whose father, the 8th Earl, died in 1992 — adds: ‘When I took over, I walked through the saloon, which is hung with family portraits going back 500 years. It was like walking across the stage with an audience. I thought ‘Goodness, it’s my turn to do something with the place.’ ‘

Sophie’s designer wedding dress under the hammer

Former lingerie model Sophie Anderton finally married the love of her life, Count Kaz Balinski-Jundzill, last summer, after postponing the wedding three times during the pandemic. But she’s already getting rid of her couture bridal gown.

The 44-year-old, who was the face of Gossard bras in the 1990s, has generously donated her dress to a charity raffle, in support of its designer Helen Cody, her close friend who has successfully battled cancer.

‘Both of us are hugely fond of Helen,’ Sophie tells me.

‘I have beautiful memories of our big day and it seems a travesty for such a beautiful design to just be collecting dust when it can be worn by a beautiful bride-to-be.’

The dress will be sold in a raffle for Arc Cancer, with tickets costing £40 each.

Top chef Richard Corrigan — who once kicked a junior member of the Royal Family out of his Mayfair restaurant, Bentley’s Oyster Bar and Grill, for calling him a ‘paddy’ — is moving back to the Emerald Isle. Corrigan, 58, who has cooked for the Queen and regularly attracts Boris Johnson, is in Dublin looking for suitable premises for a new restaurant.

‘Richard Corrigan is the biggest culinary star in Ireland, so it only makes sense for him to open a venue here,’ says my man nursing a Guinness. ‘London’s loss is our gain.’

Home’s where Toff’s heart is

Georgia Toffolo was willing to pay a staggering £250,000 a year on rent for the perfect pad, so I’m relieved to hear her housing struggles are over.

The I’m A Celebrity winner, 27, finds it a drag to live in her current Chelsea flat, which has sweeping views of the Thames. ‘I can’t carry on like this any more,’ wails Toff, who is moving into her new house, which she has had renovated, on Monday.

Of the moving process, she reveals: ‘It’s been so disruptive, you just don’t feel settled until you’ve got your base.’ She adds: ‘I am so excited — my new house is just so beautiful.’

The former Made In Chelsea star, often found flogging anything from cryptocurrency to fast fashion via social media, had been looking for a three-bedroom house.

This is despite the fact she recently split from financier ‘Posh George’ Cottrell, who was once jailed for fraud.

Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey complains about a lack of roles for middle-aged women, adding that he’s often cast opposite younger actresses.

‘I want there to be more parts for older women, particularly in television and film,’ declares Morrissey, 59, who has also starred in Line Of Duty and The Good Karma Hospital.

‘I’m often playing a man my age who is dating a 35-year-old. ‘Get real’, I think. ‘Not everyone is bloody George Clooney.’

The Queen’s friend Celia Vestey, who died unexpectedly in 2020 at the age of 71, left £1.1 million in her will.

Newly published probate documents reveal that Lady Vestey left the sum to her family.

Five employees at their magnificent Stowell Park estate in Gloucestershire were also beneficiaries, but there was no mention of her godson, Prince Harry, in her will.

Her husband, Lord Vestey, 79, whose estimated wealth was £717 million, died just a few months later. He was the Queen’s Master of the Horse.

Despite co-writing the best known anti-monarchy rock anthem, Sex Pistols star Glen Matlock appears to be warming to the Royal Family. The 65-year-old, who co-wrote punk hit God Save The Queen, has come to the conclusion that the monarchy protects us from the politicians. ‘Imagine if Boris Johnson was president,’ Matlock tells me. ‘Imagine the Prime Minister was a head of state and how bad that would be.’
