King Charles is about to embark on his annual summer holiday to Balmoral, and—as you’ve probably guessed based on the tense vibes—Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will not be joining.
The Daily Mail‘s royal expert Rebecca English reports that while His Majesty wants to get to know his grandchildren across the pond, “those close to the King genuinely never speak about the Sussexes’ children to avoid inflaming transatlantic tensions.”
English also notes that when she asked a “well-placed source” about the possibility of Harry bringing Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to Balmoral for a visit with their grandfather this summer, “the answer was a resounding snort.” Okay then!
FYI, earlier this month, royal sources told The Mirror that King Charles is “absolutely committed” to being in his grandchildren’s lives, and the outlet revealed that “the monarch is said to be keen to build a closer bond with the pair.”
“The King is absolutely committed to being present in all of his grandchildren’s lives,” one insider told The Mirror. “He values family above everything and whatever the course of his relationship with his son he would never be content with just seeing his grandchildren on the odd video call.”
It’s unclear when King Charles might see his grandchildren again considering 1) they live in California, 2) Prince Harry has major concerns about security for his family in the United Kingdom, and 3) King Charles isn’t traveling much at the moment due to his health. But here’s to hoping they manage to reunite before too long!
