Prince Harry has ‘not been acting like the Royal we know and love in the past year’ and has been behaving differently towards his brother, his biographer has claimed.
Harry and Meghan Markle came under fierce criticism this month after taking four private jet jaunts in 11 days, including trips to Sir Elton John’s villa in the French Riviera and to Ibiza.
This came after both have been outspoken in their concerns about climate change.
Penny Junor, author of Prince Harry : Brother, Solider, Son, Husband, reckons Harry is not acting like ‘one of the blokes’ he once wanted to be treated like.
Writing in the Daily Mail, the Royal author, said: “He is charming, funny and modest; he has genuine compassion and a very real desire to use his position to help others; and in things like founding Sentebale, walking with wounded veterans to the South Pole, and launching the Invictus Games, he has done exactly that.
“But things have soured in the last year and many of us feel this is not the behaviour of the Harry we know and love — the Harry who wanted to be treated like just one of the blokes.
“Following news of the private jet jaunts to Ibiza and Elton John’s home in the South of France, Harry and Meghan have kept silent, but a posse of high-profile celebrities have taken to social media to defend the couple. “
The royal expert also thinks there is a difference in the way Harry, 34, is acting towards his brother Prince William, 37 amid rumours there is a rift between the brother’s families.
These concerns were sparked after the announcement Meghan, 37, and Harry were to split households with William and Kate, 37.
Penny thinks it “would be nothing short of a tragedy if the bond between ‘Diana’s boys’ was to fall apart permanently” — and it would be something “the public would hate to see”.
Miss Junor also believes that Harry, Meghan and other Royals need to follow the example of the Queen and that of her parents, because they are “fueling those who want to see the abolition of the monarchy”.
She highlighted the fact that during WW2 when bombs were falling on London, the King and Queen were advised that it was not safe for them to remain in the capital — but stayed anyway.
Miss Junor said “the civilians appreciated that loyalty”.
After Meghan and Harry were criticised for their private jet use Royal sources reportedly told Vanity Fair that the Duchess of Sussex is ‘not wasting time’ on the public row over her private jet use.
The Royal biographer’s comments come as The Queen and Prince Philip were joined by Prince William and his wife Kate as part of their summer break in Balmoral this weekend.
The annual retreat has not been as relaxing as normal as the fall out of Prince Andrew’s links with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein continues.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge flew up to Aberdeen on Thursday for the stay at the Queen’s Scottish estate.
The Queen, wearing a tartan kilt, woolen jumper and dark green sleeveless coat, was seen getting into her own vehicle to drive around the estate.
Harry and Meghan are expected to join the Royals in Balmoral shortly, though it is not thought they have arrived yet.
