Prince Louis’ Cutting 4 Word ‘Diss’ for Grandma Carole Middleton on a Family Vacation

Kids say the darndest things. That’s most certainly the case when it comes to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s youngest child, Prince Louis. The 6-year-old reportedly dissed his grandmother, Carole Middleton, in only a way he could during one of the Prince and Princess of Wales’ family vacations.

Louis hurled a ‘diss’ at Carole when he didn’t want to get out of the water

On the “Royal Confidential” podcast, the Daily Mail’s Royal editor, Rebecca English, revealed the cutting remark Louis made to his granda on a family vacation. Carole, along with Kate’s father, Michael, are “hands-on grandparents” who often take Louis and older siblings, Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 9, “out for walks, [to] the farm park, [and] the seaside.”

Sometimes, it seems that means being subjected to sassy comments. That was the case when the family were in Mustique, the private—and very exclusive—island in the Grenadines. English recounted how a friend of writer Sophia Money-Coutts was there at the same time as the royals when she overheard Louis talking to Carole.

One friend of mine staying on the same Caribbean island a couple of years ago talked of seeing Carole, in her role as Mary Poppins, trying to cajole a small Prince Louis out of the sea,” English said. Louis wasn’t having it because he told Carole off, saying, “Go away, you’re old!’”

What Louis told Carole Middleton was somehow ‘sweet’

Louis’s words made Elvin and Eden burst into laughter with English noting that “it’s a sweetly Louis thing to say.” As for Carole’s response, English didn’t share how, or even if, Carole responded to her grandson’s remark. And, anyway, according to Elvin, “That is a diss that a grandma just has to take on the chin.” So, perhaps, Carole got a little laugh out of it and moved on.

Another element of humor came from where it happened—on the private island of Mustique. Eden noted that part of the draw for celebrities like William and Kate “is that it’s a private island and people won’t report back what you say.” What Louis said, however, was apparently too funny not to share.

Louis reportedly returned to Mustique for a recent visit to the island to celebrate Carole’s 70th birthday, along with his parents, siblings, and the rest of the Middleton family (via Daily Mail).

Other memorable moments from Prince Louis

This is far from the first anecdote to surface about Louis making silly or sassy comments. Over the years, he’s become known to go viral for his antics at royal family events.

In 2022, he quickly became an online sensation for making faces at Kate during Platinum Jubilee Weekend. He also drew attention on social media for chatting with Queen Elizabeth II, his great-grandmother who died just months later, on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

More recently, Louis’s antics have been more subdued in public, perhaps with him getting older. At his mom’s Christmas carol concert in December 2024, there was no silliness from Louis, only an adorable note about his grandparents. He also managed to keep a secret from Charlotte, despite wanting to spill it hours ahead of the concert.

Here’s hoping for more silliness from Louis in the future!
