Prince William ‘doesn’t want to be associated with Harry at all’, says royal expert after the pair attended Diana Legacy Awards separately

A royal expert has said that William ‘does not want to be associated with Harry at all’ after they both appeared at their mother’s legacy awards separately.

Duncan Larcombe, former royal editor at The Sun told Good Morning Britain today that he believes their rift has deepened in recent months, rather than healed.

The Prince of Wales and Duke of Sussex made a rare joint appearance for the Diana Legacy Awards at the Science Museum in London.

But neither were in the room at the same time, even virtually, in what was the event’s 25th anniversary.

Harry appeared via videolink, but William was long gone by then, having left the event at 8.15pm.

‘It was one of the most extraordinary royal engagements [I’ve] ever come across,’ Duncan said.

‘Not only was Harry coming in via videolinkbut only after William had left the ceremony, that’s how much William doesn’t want to be associated with Harry at all.

‘This rift unfortunately seems to have, if anything, deepened rather than started to get better.

‘Things can change in the royal family but it’s hard. The death of their grandfather [and] grandmother didn’t bring them together, the Coronation didn’t bring them together and now even their mother’s legacy cannot bring them together.

Royal expert Ingrid Seward was also on the show and said she thinks that Meghan has disrupted the balance in the royal family.

She said: ‘I think it matters because of Diana’s memory. She famously said to her boys “Please, whatever happens in life, always remain great friends with each other” and that’s exactly where it’s gone wrong.’

‘Harry, William and Kate were like a trio before and then another person comes in and it upsets the balance.

‘[With] other girlfriends of Harry’s it kind of worked but it didn’t work with Meghan and that upset the balance and I think that’s when things went wrong.

‘They’ve got worse and worse ever since, culminating in Harry’s very unpleasant remarks when he was publishing his book.

Ingrid said that when the pair meet in person again, she thinks they won’t ‘snarl’ at each other but equally won’t talk out their issues.

‘It’s got to happen naturally and it hasn’t,’ she added.

Speaking about the event last night, Ingrid said: ‘William does the serious bit and Harry does the jolly bit. But the story we latch onto is that they cannot even be together via videolink.’

The pair then moved on and spoke about Kate’s Mother’s Day picture blunder.

The royal released a photo of herself and her children, Prince Louis, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Bizarre and outrageous theories about the Princess’s health and whereabouts have circulated on social media during her absence, which were only fuelled by the editing gaffe.

Top picture agencies pulled the photo from their wires amid concern the image had been ‘manipulated’ by the source – with Kate later admitting she had ‘edited’ the photo.

Duncan believes that the public will be ‘quite forgiving’ of the Princess of Wales because she is a popular royal.

Ingrid added that the picture error was the Palace’s fault for not double checking with the future Queen about the alterations she made to the image.

‘I blame them and I think she probably, if she wasn’t such a nice person, would blame them too. I’m sure William is not very happy with his office,’ she said.
