Prince William was once chased by a police dog on the Queen’s Sandringham estate, it has been claimed.
The Duke of Cambridge, 38, who is currently based in Kensington Palace with his family, was enjoying a late night walk across the Norfolk grounds when the animal mistook him for an intruder.
PC Jon Chandler, who was on duty on the estate that night has recalled the incident in an interview where he reflected on his 30 years in service before his retirement.
He told The Eastern Daily Press that the dog went ‘charging after’ Prince William when he picked up his scent, before barking at him.

He recalled: ‘I had a particularly interesting night when I was walking my dog off the lead around the grounds and he chased after the future king of England.
‘It was late at night and Prince William was walking towards the garages and the dog picked up his scent and went charging after him. He took it in good jest. He was only young then.
‘It could have gone horribly wrong if he was bitten, but fortunately the dog did what it was supposed to do, and just stood back and barked at him. It was a memorable night.’
The royal family traditionally gather at the Queen’s Sandringham estate to spend the Christmas holidays with each other.

Prince William, like his grandmother the Queen, is a well-known dog lover.
In November, he revealed how his family had been left saddened by the death of their eight-year-old cocker spaniel Lupo.
The beloved dog was a wedding present from Kate’s brother James Middleton.
William and Kate said in a heart breaking Instagram post in November: ‘Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much.’
