Princess Rajwa, the wife of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan, gave birth to a girl on Saturday, the couple’s first child and the first grandchild of King Abdullah II, the country’s royal court said.
In a brief statement, the royal Hashemite court said the baby was named Iman.
In a video posted on Rajwa’s official Instagram page on Saturday, Hussein was cradling his newborn daughter to the soundtrack of You Are My Sunshine.
Sweet photos also show the new parents cuddling their newborn, with Iman meeting her grandparents and aunt for the first time too at the King Hussein Medical Centre hospital, in Amman, Jordan.
The birth of Princess Iman came about a year after Hussein and Rajwa’s extravagant wedding, which drew a star-studded guest list including the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Rajwa, 30, was born in Riyadh to a prominent and wealthy Saudi Arabian family distantly related to the country’s current ruler, King Salman.

Hussein, also 30, was named crown prince in 2004, at the age of 15, after Abdullah stripped his own half-brother, Prince Hamzah, of the title.
The prince is the eldest son of Abdallah II, 62, who has ruled Jordan as a reliable western ally and voice of moderation through more than two decades of turmoil in Israel, the Palestinian territories, Syria and Iraq, all of which border the small, resource-poor kingdom.
According to Jordanian law, only males can inherit the Hashemite throne.
‘The royal Hashemite court extends its sincere congratulations and best wishes to their royal highnesses and to their majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah on this happy occasion,’ the statement read.

In June, the Queen of Jordan, 53, shared a gushing post to her 10 million followers to mark her son turning 30, showing Hussein and Rajwa beaming in formal attire.
Rajwa, 30, was glowing in an off-white dress with the fitted silhouette revealing her blossoming baby bump; she added lavish accessories to the outfit – including a diamond bracelet.
The couple – who wed in a prestigious ceremony last year at Zahran Palace – appeared in high spirits as they posed in nature, glancing away from the camera.

The joyous announcement comes after Rajwa’s tragic loss of her father in February – just months after she married into the Jordanian royal family .
Khaled bin Musaed bin Saif bin Abdulaziz Al Saif died at the age of 71.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram , Prince Hussein shared a picture of him embracing Khaled, who became his ‘beloved’ father-in-law after marrying Princess Rajwa last June.
‘With profound sadness and sorrow, we bid farewell to my beloved father-in-law. We will always remember his kindness, generosity, and integrity. May God bestow mercy upon him and grant us patience and strength,’ he wrote.
Hussei, and high-flying architect Rajwa, were married in June last year at Zahran Palace in Amman.
Following a short service, Abdullah II and Rania hosted a lavish reception at the Al Husseiniya Palace, which was attended by more than 1,700 guests – including the Prince and Princess of Wales .
Rajwa dazzled in a white gown by Lebanese designer Elie Saab, which featured a lengthy train embroidered with flowers, and a sparkling diamond tiara.
Abdullah II and Rania proudly watched as their son was wed during an Islamic ceremony known as a ‘katb ktab’ held in a gazebo and conducted by the Royal Hashemite Court Imam Dr Ahmed Al Khalaileh.
Kate Middleton, who lived in Jordan for a short period during her childhood, led the glamorous guests at the event in a blush pink lace dress also by Elie Saab.
