Priyanka Chopra says best friend Meghan Markle was ‘always meant for big things’

Priyanka Chopra said her close friend Meghan Markle was ‘always meant for big things’ as she discussed the new Royal’s marriage to Prince Harry in a new interview.

Speaking in the latest issue of Elle UK, the actress, 36, said the Duchess of Sussex, 37, has fulfilled her ‘destiny’ by becoming a voice for change. 

The former Quantico star, who wed Nick Jonas, 26, in December – said the couple also plan to buy a home in London which will enable them to spend more time with Meghan and newborn son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.   

Priyanka said: ‘Megs … she was always meant for big things. To be a change and be an important voice in doing that.

‘It’s amazing that she found that calling and has the platform to be able to do it.

‘By the time this comes out, she will have a baby [Archie, who was born on 6 May]  it’s so amazing how lives change.

‘I’m a big believer in taking charge of your life, but there’s got to be something bigger that puts us into the circumstances that we are put in.

‘Destiny has a weird way of helping you to find your calling.’

Discussing her and Nick’s aspirations to find a home in the British capital, which would put them closer to the Royal family, who live in Windsor.  

She said: ‘Nick and I want to get a place in London at some point. Whenever I go there, I feel connected to the city.’     

The interview  comes three months after Priyanka broke her silence on claims of a ‘feud’ with best friend Meghan after she failed to attend her baby shower.

The actress was grilled over whether it was correct she skipped the occasion because she was angry the Duchess Of Sussex didn’t attend her wedding to Nick Jonas in India last year.

During an interview on Watch What Happens Live, Priyanka laughed off the claims, insisting it was simply ‘not true’.  

‘Are the rumours true that you were upset that Meghan Markle skipped your wedding to Nick Jonas?’ A fan called in to ask.

Host Andy Cohen added fuel to the fire when he dragged up the reports that claimed Priyanka didn’t attend the baby shower because she was ‘p****d’ at Meghan.

He said: ‘They said you didn’t go to her baby shower because you were p****d at her.’

This was denied by Priyanka in the interview.

Only months later, in December, the new royal was unable to appear at her pal’s nuptials to Nick in India.

The ladies first became friends after bonding at an ELLE Women in Television event in January 2016.

Meghan previously revealed they became friends easily. ‘You know when you meet someone and you just click?’ Meghan told the Press Trust Of India.

‘It was just an easy, natural progression. We’ve managed to keep in touch via email and text, and try to see each other whenever we’re both in the same town.’            

The candid interview also saw Priyanka dish on her multiple wedding ceremonies to Nick, and her famous friends, all while beaming for her cover shoot.

The  Hollywood and Bollywood actress shared how quickly plans came together for her December wedding to the Jonas brother. 

The pair began dating in May 2018 and were engaged by August. She said they decided on a venue in October and had just over a month to put the details together.  

‘We decided on the venue for our wedding in October and we got married on 1 December. We had one-and-a-half months to plan, so we were just like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, let’s get it.”

She continued: ‘And suddenly we were like, ‘Ohhh god.’ It was very extravagant. Hopefully, you just do it once. So it’s fine.’

Since marrying the duo have hit red carpets and weddings on each other’s arms. She was even featured in the brother’s documentary Chasing Happiness in 2019. 

Married life is an adjustment for the film producer. She said ‘It’s so different. I’d never realized having a husband and a boyfriend are such different things.’

Though she said she is comforted by the security in her marriage. ‘When you say your vows, it’s like, this person is my family, and it’s the family I chose. There’s a weird responsibility to them. And a safety that comes from it. We are learning about each other every day.’ 

With her brothers-in-law she also gains nieces, Kevin has two daughter’s with his wife Danielle, who she gets to call sister-in-law along with Sophie Turner. 

‘I’ve never had a sister, so it’s really nice to have Danielle and Sophie, and just inheriting the family by proxy. Sophie is super talented, super funny and we have the most fun when we go out together,’ the India born star said.

Though she and her new husband recently splashed out on a $6.5 million house in Beverly Hills but that is not the only place they’d like to call home. 

‘Nick and I want to get a place in London at some point. Whenever I go there, I feel connected to the city.’

She has big plans for Hollywood so being close-by in the 90210 bodes well for her. 

Though she has broken barriers leading being a South-Asian woman and a flagship network show, she wants to create opportunities for other South-Asian actors and artists.    

‘My life’s dream is to be able to make or produce a movie that has a predominately South Asian cast,’ she said. ‘I’m so glad that I’ve been put into the position where I have the ability to open those doors. I want to do it because no one was able to do it for me.’   

In the August issue she stuns in a few different looks. She wears a white ruffled top, paired with chandelier-like pearl earrings. 

For an interesting shot she posed in a large yellow dress that seemed to overtake her, while standing on a metal staircase on a rooftop. She also laid down on a yellow couch in a beautiful mint dress with a near-sheer top. 

The cover sees the actress’ face peeking out behind a pink and black fluffed fabric.
