Problems with mail delivery after locks change

Recently the  locks on our communal doors have been updated, from simple buzzer and vocal, to a system with a camera enabling the residents to see who is at the door.

The previous locks allowed doors to be opened allowing deliveries. The new locks keep the doors locked 24/7.

Unfortunately our social landlord, Hedyn, failed to supply Royal Mail with a master fob key or tradesman’s pin to enable entry.

Unless there is someone at home to open the communal door the postperson cannot gain entry to our letterboxes.

After waiting ten days for a new debit card I visited Newport’s delivery office behind the railway station.

Of four letters two were from my bank, the card and pin number.

Because of poor planning by our social landlord it is likely that some residents living in the over 55s complex have missed, among other things, medical appointments.

It is to be hoped that in future more consideration will be given to residents and less chance of infringing the 2000 Act

Under the Postal Services Act 2000, it is an offence to intentionally obstruct a postal operator or to delay mail from reaching the owner.
