‘Prolific’ abuser jailed after campaign of sexual assaults and violence across Scotland

A ‘violent’ and ‘abusive’ man has been jailed at Glasgow High Court after carrying out a campaign of sexual offences, violence and abuse across the country.

Anthony Gibson subjected several women to abuse across Lanarkshire, Fife, Edinburgh and Midlothian. Gibson, 37, has been jailed for 13 years.

Gibson was charged in connection with serious sexual assaults, violence and abusive and controlling behaviour. The case dates back to November 2020, when police say they discovered Gibson had abused two women.

Investigators then uncovered other cases of abuse, and it became apparent Gibson had subjected other women to abuse in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Lanarkshire and Fife.

Following the sentencing at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday (November 11), Detective Inspector Frank Keegan described Gibson as a “prolific offender.” He said: “I can only hope that the women he harmed take some solace in knowing he can no longer inflict his violent and abusive behaviour on them or any other women.

“It is incredibly difficult for anyone to stand up and confront an abuser and I would like to thank the women for their strength and resilience in speaking with us. I would encourage anyone who has been or is being subjected to violence and abuse to report it to us.”
