A pub-goer has slammed a boozer’s “poxy” incentives for sinking an incredible amount of beer.
Sharing a snap of a poster he spotted in the gents’ toilet at his local boozer, the man questioned: “Surely this isn’t a club ANYBODY should join?” In fact, the pub offers a “membership” to three clubs, dubbed “Club 100, 300 and 500” respectively.
Meeting the requirements is fairly self-explanatory, as the poster explains in three steps: “Sign up to the club. Purchase 100/300/500 pints of GUEST ale. Claim your prize!”
And according to the poster, 100 pints will earn you a navy polo shirt, 300 will bag you a maroon one, while the ultimate prize comes in the form of a black fleece – emblazoned with “500 Club” and the pub’s logo.
Continuing on Reddit, the baffled man added: “I wouldn’t want to know when I’d got to 50 pints, let alone 300! AND you only get a poxy polo shirt. Seen in my local pub’s mens toilets.”
Fellow Redditors criticised the scheme too, offering a variety of reasons as to why they wouldn’t opt to get involved. “One thing I absolutely don’t want to have a record of is how many drinks I’ve had at the same pub,” one person explained.
A second added: “It’s the same pub bit that would make it depressing. I’ve lived in a few different countries, and returning home after a few years and seeing the same people in the same pub whining about the same things always got me down a bit.”
A third said: “I’ve just spent about 9 months working in a pub, and it’s really made clear to me that I absolutely do not want to end up like the regulars who come in at the same time every day and drink the same thing. Many of them sitting on their own by choice. It looks like a miserable existence.”
While a fourth made light of the situation, encouraging: “10 pints every Friday night for a year and that polo is yours for next summer mate. Get stuck in.”
