Q1 revenue growth amid senior appointments at Greencore

Convenience foods giant Greencore Group has reported first quarter revenue growth and made a pair of senior appointments.

Greencore has 21 production units in 16 manufacturing sites in the UK, operating two ingredient trading businesses in Ireland. The group employs 11,500 people.

Group revenue for the 13 weeks to 27 December 2019 rose to £367.8m, an increase of 1.8 per cent on Q1 in the previous year.

“We continue to make good strides in the diverse, attractive and growing UK food to go market,” said chief executive Patrick Coveney.

“Our strategy to drive growth, to deepen customer relevance and to pursue a distinctive and repeatable way of working is well embedded across the business. Following a steady start to 2020, we look forward to delivering a year of profitable growth.”

 The company has also revealed the appointments of Helen Weir as non-executive director with effect from 1 February 2020 and Paul Drechsler as non-executive director with effect from 1 May 2020.

Weir previously served as a non-executive director at SAB Miller and Royal Mail Holdings and was chief financial officer at Marks & Spencer Group from 2015 to 2018, as well as the finance director at John Lewis Partnership from 2012 to 2014.  

Drechsler is a board member of the International Chamber of Commerce (UK), and previously served as president of CBI.   He was also senior non-executive director of Essentra.

Chairman Gary Kennedy added: “We are delighted that both Helen and Paul are joining the Board.  Their individual skills, as well extensive experience and expertise will be highly beneficial to both the Board and the Group.”
