The Queen and the Royal Family have secretly opened their doors to Ukrainian refugees fleeing their homeland.

Palace sources say a number of members have vowed to ‘do their bit’ after being moved by the tragic events following Vladimir Putin’s invasion.

Royals have also made substantial cash donations but insist they want to keep their efforts to help under wraps.

Almost 54,000 refugees have arrived under the Government’s scheme, with the royals now joining politicians, business leaders and huge numbers of other Britons in offering to house the six million people desperately escaping Russian invaders.

Buckingham Palace insists members of the family are working on a number of projects but has declined to elaborate on the plan to take in refugees, according to the Express.

The Queen herself has demonstrated her support recently by wearing Ukraine’s famous yellow and blue, while also ordering flowers to Windsor Castle in the same two colours.

‘These things don’t tend to happen by accident,’ a senior royal source said.

It comes after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also offered public support, paying tribute to the bravery of the Ukraine team at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games last month, with the Duchess of Sussex exclaiming: ‘Slava Ukraini! (Glory to Ukraine!)’

The Duke said he hoped the games would create the opportunity for the world to ‘better show up’ for the country of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge recently appeared to fight back tears over the Ukraine crisis when visiting the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in London, alongside her husband Prince William, who insisted: ‘We are all behind you.’

Kate and William, who revealed their eldest children have been questioning them about the conflict, brought trays of homemade chocolate brownies and granola bars with them from Kensington Palace to give to the members of the Ukrainian community and volunteers they met.

Further showing their support, both William and Kate sported pins showcasing the blue and yellow of the Ukrainian flag underneath a white love heart, while the Duke donned a navy suit and jumper for the outing in Holland Park.

The couple heard about the services offered at the centre, the incredible amount of donations they have received following Russia’s invasion of the country and the challenges they continue to face to get material aid where it’s most needed.
