Parties have been pooh-poohed for months, and now even royal garden parties are a no-go.
Queen Elizabeth II called off all royal garden parties in London and Edinburgh, Buckingham Palace announced.
The reasoning was COVID-19-related, According to U.K.’s Daily Mail .
It was tough to plan the events amidst new protocols and lockdowns. A lack of certainty about rules and regulations down the line made it difficult to approve the events.
According to the Daily Mail, garden parties are a way of honouring and thanking members of the public who have gone above and beyond in serving charities and their local communities.
They are regularly held at Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh and the Queen usually hosts more than 30,000 guests at the summer-time events.
Guests randomly meet members of the royal family.
The 2020 garden parties were not held due to COVID-19.
