Following Queen Elizabeth ‘s death, a touching note to her grandson Prince William has gone viral. The message was reportedly written in the early 1990s to accompany a calendar that she gifted William.
After being shared on Twitter by the Royal Household Mail account, the post has racked up thousands of likes and numerous comments.
“William,” the note reads.
“I hope you enjoy opening this each day. From Granny.”
Auctioned a few years ago
As the Daily Mail has revealed, the Queen‘s short note was auctioned by RR Auction in 2016 after being sold to them by one of Princess Diana‘s former employees.
Executive VP at Boston-based RR Auction Robert Livingston said at the time that the note was “a seldom-encountered piece of correspondence from within the royal family, enhanced by its fitting Christmas time association”.
Close relationship
William maintained a very close relationship with his grandmother. After her passing away, he issued an emotive statement to pay tribute to Elizabeth.
“I have had the benefit of the queen’s wisdom and reassurance into my fifth decade,” he noted.
“She was by my side at my happiest moments. And she was by my side during the saddest days of my life.
“My grandmother famously said that grief was the price we pay for love. All of the sadness we will feel in the coming weeks will be testament to the love we felt for our extraordinary queen.”
