Queen launches Tomato Sauce ketchup at £7 a bottle

The Queen

has launched her own brand of posh ketchup and brown sauce as she turns her attention from alcohol to condiments.

The monarch, 95, who is known to be partial to chips and ketchup, will be selling her sauces for the princely sum of £6.99 a bottle.

The Queen’s Tomato Sauce is said to be ‘ideal for breakfast or any time of the day’ though, with only 295g a bottle, consumers will have to make the most of it.

By comparison, supermarket chain Sainsbury’s own ketchup costs just 60p for nearly 500g.

During the past few years, the monarch and company have released a number of beers and wine, as well as two types of gin, one tied to Buckingham Palace and the other to Sandringham House.

The latest additions will be available on the Sandringham online shop in the near future, though the date of release is yet to be confirmed.

The sauce, which is flavoured with dates, apple juice and spices, comes in a glass jar with a Royal Estate label.

The Queen reportedly loves the occasional takeaway fish and chips, with a footman dispatch to the nearby town to collect the treat

The bottle description reads as follows: ‘A real family favourite, packed full of tomato and lightly spiced, this ketchup is delightful. Vibrant and fruity, this ketchup can be enjoyed any time of the day, perfect to add flavour to a dish.’

The Queen is reported to indulge occasionally in takeaway fish and chips from the nearby town of Ballater when she stays at Balmoral Castle, an insider previously claimed.

‘She very occasionally treats herself to fish and chips when at Balmoral,’ the source said in 2019.

‘A footman is dispatched to get it from the local town of Ballater.’

The Queen has her own personal chef who sometimes mimics fast food dishes for the 95-year-old monarch but it’s believed she likes to indulge in the real thing on rare special occasions.

The Queen’s former chef Darren McGrady has previously said that kitchen staff would make their own versions of takeout food for the Royal Family.

Among her favourite fast food treats are burgers, he added, though she prefers them without a bun.

‘It always tickled me at Balmoral, we would make our own burgers,’ he said. ‘They would shoot deer, and we would do venison burgers. There’d be gorgeous cranberry and everything stuffed into them, but we never set buns out.’

Mr McGrady, who was born in the UK but is now based in Texas, added the Queen’s upbringing means ‘the only thing you would pick up and eat with your fingers is afternoon tea.’
