A bank holiday weekend will very soon be in full swing as people up and down the country commemorate the Queens 70th year on the throne. Tomorrow (June 2) will mark the first of the four-day celebrations for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, as garden chairs are being gathered for street parties and cakes in the shape of corgis are being popped in the fridge.
However, like all bank holidays, sometimes opening and closing times for businesses can be massively confusing. With most of our shopping done online these days, one of the most frequent questions raised on a bank holiday is whether delivery services will be in action.
If you’re waiting for a parcel or two to be delivered – or if you’re sending some out yourself – then you’ll have to time it right over the bumper weekend. The Royal Mail website says: “We deliver and collect your mail on most days of the year, including Saturdays. However, we don’t usually deliver or collect on bank and public holidays.”

The website states there will be no collections or deliveries on Thursday, June 2 or on Friday, June 3. Services should operate as usual on Saturday, June 4 but most Post Offices are closed on Sundays.
You can use the Royal Mail Branch Finder to find the opening hours of your local Post Office, or the details you need to get in touch with them.
Street parties are being planned across the country as the Queen prepares to mark 70 years on the throne. The first day of celebrations will begin with the Trooping the Colour, which is the Queen’s birthday parade. Its a military parade with soldiers, musicians and horses on show all involved in the performance.
It is then hoped that the Queen will make an appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, alongside other members of the Royal Family to watch a special flypast. There are concerns that the weather could add a dampener to the weekend, with some possible showers forecasted.
