The town is set for massive change – we look at what’s there now and how it could change
Reading is set for a huge transformation over the next decade.
A number of huge plans are either underway, have planning permission or are waiting to be given permission by Reading Borough Council.
This means thousands of new homes for the area, which could look very different by the year 2030.
The developments are largely made of flats and apartments. This is because of Reading’s urban nature, which means land for large housing estate is extremely scarce.
It’s not known whether all the plans in the pipeline will get permission, or will end up being built as they are originally permitted.
What we do know is a lot of the plans will regenerate run down parts of town.

We can’t say exactly what they’ll look like, but we can use the designs put forward by the developers to show what they could end up looking like when they’re finished.
Our photographer Darren Pepe has been out taking photos of what stands there today, and the designs should show how that will change.
Some of these changes are quite dramatic and will definitely change the landscape of the town for years to come.
