Red Arrows 60th display season marked with issue of special Royal Mail stamps

A special set of 12 stamps has been issued by the Royal Mail to mark the Red Arrows’ 60th display season.

The incredible photos pictured on the stamps show some of the RAF display team’s amazing manoeuvres and iconic formations.

Each stamp in the main set of eight shows the Red Arrows painting the sky with their trademark red, white and blue smoke trails.

In addition, four more stamps show the Red Arrows performing worldwide at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Pyramids in Egypt and the Niagara Falls.

The stamps, alongside a range of collectables, will be available from 20 June online, and a presentation pack including all 12 stamps costs £22.

Squadron Leader Jon Bond, Team Leader of the Red Arrows, said the “milestone season underscores the excellence, dedication and pride of all those who have worked for, supported or just simply watched a show by” the Red Arrows.

“As well as celebrating this heritage, these new stamps – many of which feature brilliant images taken by skilled RAF personnel – will hopefully inspire many more people using the wonder of aviation, just like each of our colourful, dynamic displays,” he said.

The Red Arrows were first formed in 1964, so the release of the stamps comes as the display team marks 60 years of thrilling and entertaining millions with their breathtaking displays.

After their first display, seven months on from formation, the Red Arrows and their red-painted Gnat jet trainers soon became the showpiece of the Royal Air Force.

Since 1980, the team have flown the Hawk aircraft, but the role of demonstrating their awe-inspiring teamwork and excellence around the globe has not changed.

David Gold, director of external affairs and policy at Royal Mail, said he was “proud to mark their 60th season with these striking new stamps”.

“During important national celebrations such as His Majesty’s coronation and representing the UK globally, the Red Arrows have entertained us with spectacular displays of aeronautical excellence,” he said.
