Red Arrows soar over Scottish capital to mark Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

The iconic Red Arrows have wowed the crowds with a dazzling aerobatic display above the Scottish capital for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

The nine Hawk aircraft filled the sky over Edinburgh Castle and along the Royal Mile with their signature red, white and blue smoke trails.

This was the second of up to five flypasts during this year’s Tattoo, during which the Royal Air Force aerobatic display team fly in precise formations, showcasing their aeronautical skills.

The Red Arrows are celebrating their 60th anniversary this year with a special Diamond Season of aerial displays, including manoeuvres not seen for a generation.

The Hawk jets also feature special artwork to mark the team’s anniversary campaign.

On X, the Red Arrows posted a view from the cockpit as they soared over Edinburgh.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo was first performed in 1950 and gained the “Royal” designation after Queen Elizabeth II awarded it the title to mark its 60th birthday.

Further Red Arrow flypasts are due at 21:30 on Tuesday 13, Thursday 15 and Friday 23 August.
