REDUCE EMISSIONS: Royal Mail rolls-out 96 electric vans in Watford delivery office

Royal Mail has completely electrified its fleet at Watford Delivery Office as part of its effort to reduce emissions.

On May 6, the mail delivery service reported that all 96 diesel vehicles at the Caxton Way facility had been replaced with electric vans. As part of the change, 26 electric charging stations have been installed on the site, and the energy used to operate the office and charge the cars is obtained using a 100 per cent renewable tariff.

The move will aid the 194 postal employees at the Watford Delivery Office in securely and effectively delivering mail and packages while emitting less emissions and is part of a larger strategy to roll out 3000 electric vans to delivery office sites around the UK.

Around 45 delivery facilities throughout the UK are being updated to accommodate the next 3,000 electric vehicles that will be deployed across the Royal Mail network.

Ian Searle, Watford delivery office manager, said: “It’s been great to have the opportunity to be leading the way in the rollout of Royal Mail’s new electric fleet.  The new vans will be become a familiar site on the streets of Watford and our posties are really excited about doing their bit to reduce air and noise pollution in the town.”
