Thieves have stolen a remote post box – just weeks after it was restored and repainted.
The traditional red box in Lindsey Tye was only smartened up by Royal Mail a few weeks ago, but all that remains is the shattered pillar on which it was mounted. It is not known if any post was inside.
The boxes, especially older models, are prized by collectors and can sell for as much as £250.
Villagers are angry but Royal Mail has refused to say if it will be replaced – or if any others in the county have been stolen.
A spokeswoman for Royal Mail said: “We can confirm that the postbox at Lindsey Tye has been stolen. This has been reported to the police.
“Royal Mail has more than 115,000 post boxes across the UK and thefts are relatively rare. Royal Mail takes the issue extremely seriously and we urge anyone with any information to contact the police.
“If customers have any concerns about their mail, they should contact our customer service team on 03457 740740.”
