Renewable energy expert signs up for vacant industrial premises

The Phoenix Works has secured a 10-year lease on an industrial unit — owned and managed by commercial and industrial lettings specialist and landlord, Towngate PLC.

The 18,209 sq ft unit – which forms part of the Turnkey Park estate in South West Leeds – features a large, self-contained front yard, two-storey modern office accommodation, a trade counter, and two roller shutter doors.

The new tenant joins several existing occupiers of the park, including Salon Services Ltd, Lifting Gear UK Ltd, and TLA Distribution Ltd, with Ferrari, Makro, and Topps Tiles in the vicinity.

The organisation was founded in 2010, with a goal to encourage and enable UK dwellings — including homes, workplaces, and public sector buildings — to embrace renewable technology.

Specialising in designing EV charging, and solar and battery storage solutions, the firm counts the likes of NHS, Royal Mail, Uber, and University of Leeds among its client roster.

Matthew Morgan, operations director, at The Phoenix Works said: “Our move to Turnkey Park signifies the next step in our ambitious plans for the organisation.

“Over our 10-year history we have seen the adoption of renewable technology steadily increase, and now more than ever, climate change is at the forefront of people’s minds.

“Expanding into this new space will allow us to scale and deliver more projects to meet the demand from customers making the transition to sustainable energy.”

Tom Lamb, property manager at Towngate PLC, said: “We are delighted to welcome The Phoenix Works to the Turnkey Park estate, and I am sure that the excellent location will prove to be of tremendous benefit.

“The unit had been vacated unexpectedly during the pandemic, so it is a reassuring sign that it’s occupied once more and will be utilised to its full potential.

“We’re further encouraged that during these turbulent times, we’ve been able to assist another company to move their business to the next level.

“Our special thanks go to Dan Walker, our retained agent at Gent Visick, for his continued hard work.”

Walker said: “Following commencement of the marketing activity, we received significant interest in the property — possibly due to a limited number of competing units on the market.

“We were pleased to agree terms with The Phoenix Works and secure them as a new occupier in Towngate’s portfolio, and in such a quick turnaround. Credit goes to all involved.”
