Rennie Grove Hospice Care has received a £1,000 donation from Amazon’s delivery station in Hemel Hempstead to support its efforts in the fight against COVID-19.
The charity, which provide hospice care at home to patients in Hemel Hempstead and across west Herts, received the donation as part of a commitment from Amazon to support those most affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
The donation was made alongside the provision of care packages for 100 hospice nurses.
Rennie Grove plans to use the funds to support their nurses to continue providing care to their local patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families in their own homes.
The team from the delivery station also delivered gifts for 165 children undergoing hospice care with Rennie Grove, and their siblings, during Children’s Hospice Week in June.
Amazon Hemel Hempstead delivery station manager, Ryan Padley, said: “Rennie Grove is doing vital work in our community and we wanted to support their efforts with this donation.
“The services offered by the charity’s staff and volunteers have never been more important and I’d like to thank them for everything they’re doing for our community during these challenging times.”
Tracey Hancock, director of fundraising from Rennie Grove, added: “Vulnerable people in our community have been severely impacted by COVID-19 and this support from Amazon will ensure we’re able to keep helping those in need.
“On behalf of everyone at Rennie Grove, I’d like to say a big thank you to Ryan and the Amazon team for their support.”
Community donations is one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.
Amazon have joined a coalition of companies, universities, and research institutions to boost testing capacity for COVID-19. Amazon’s logistics network, along with Royal Mail, will deliver test kits to critical workers and diagnostic sites set up around the UK.
Amazon is also providing free online STEM resources to students in lower-income communities to enable learning to continue during school closures and is working with charity partner Magic Breakfast to ensure they can continue to provide free breakfast provisions to children in disadvantaged areas.
