Residents’ concerns after postal delays in Liscard

RESIDENTS in one part of Wirral say they have not had any post delivered for several days.

Posting in the Facebook group Wallasey Gossip, one person said: “Anyone else not had any post for about 5 days? (Liscard area).”

The Liscard resident added: “[It’s my] son’s birthday on Friday and [I’ve been] waiting for letters and parcels for about a week, not a postie in sight.

“My parents live in [Northern Ireland] and due to lockdown they have sent things over and I’m worried [they’re not going to] arrive in time now.”

He has since updated his post, telling members of the Facebook group that he went to Wallasey Delivery Office and got all his post in one go.

Dozens of people responded to the post.

One member of Wallasey Gossip said they have not had any post since last Wednesday.

Concurring with them, another post read: “Yep, I’m just off Manor Road and haven’t had any for about a week.”

Some who responded to the Wallasey Gossip post said they had received their post recently. One person said: “I hadn’t had any for over a week then got loads yesterday.”

While some were frustrated at the delays, others said they sympathised with the postal service given the problems created by the coronavirus pandemic.

Declaring that they also had not received any post recently, one member of the group said: “No [I have not] … I’m waiting on a few things but appreciate the situation.”

Another post read: “My brother is a postie and they are inundated with mail. He works nights sorting all the mail.

“All the posties are doing their very best under the Covid circumstances.”

Responding to the many contributions from members of the group, the person who wrote the original post said: “Thank god it’s not just me, fingers crossed the posties are doing their best in this c*** situation!”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Every item of mail is important to Royal Mail. We are working hard to deliver the most comprehensive service we can to all our customers in challenging circumstances.

“Despite our best endeavours, it is possible that some areas of the country may on occasion experience a temporary reduction in service levels due to coronavirus-related absences and necessary social distancing measures at their local mail centre or delivery office.

The spokesperson added: “In such cases, we always work hard to get back to providing a normal service as quickly as we can.

“We always endeavour to keep our customers as informed as we can of any changes to our services.

“We have a dedicated section on our website https://www.royalmail.com/coronavirus.

“Throughout this crisis, every decision we make puts the health of our people and customers first. We were the first UK company to put in place social-distancing measures in relation to parcel delivery.

“We pioneered contact-free delivery. Standard ways of working have been revised to ensure that colleagues stay two metres apart at all times”.
