Resurfaced video of a young King Charles showing off his moves on a dancefloor in Rio de Janeiro delights royal fans

Royal fans have been left delighted after a video resurfaced of a young King Charles showing off his dance moves in Rio de Janeiro.

The then Prince of Wales, who would have been around 29 years old at the time, was filmed getting his groove on with a Samba dancer in Brazil in 1978.

The royal was invited to the party staged by the city’s mayor at the town hall at the time, a year prior to him meeting Princess Diana, whom he would marry and have two children with, Prince William and Prince Harry.

He caused a sensation at the time, twirling energetically and strutting his stuff with a famous dancer called Pina de Beija-Flora.

Charles, now 75, was not particularly dressed for the occasion but that did not stop him from getting involved in the fun.

He looked dapper in a tuxedo, donning a crisp white shirt, a black bow tie, smart trousers and highly polished shoes, whereas Pina was dressed in an ensemble that certainly turned heads.

She donned a glittery white and silver headpiece, along with a minuscule dress with large cut-out detailing, showing off her slender frame and toned shoulders.

Pictures emerged of the pair with their arms around each other’s shoulders as they danced the evening away.

In 2009, he visited Rio again with his second wife, Queen Camilla, who was then the Duchess of Cornwall, and showed more reserve than his previous trip.

During a speech, Charles referred to his night in 1978 and told the audience, according to the Daily Mail: ‘On that first visit I can remember dancing a somewhat rudimentary version of the samba with a rather dramatically semi-naked lady here in Rio.

‘Thirty years later and prior to this visit the lady concerned has been in touch to suggest a slightly more staid re-run of the Samba. Do I accept the challenge?’

Pina hung up her sparkling head-dresses and daring, attention-grabbing costumes many years prior to his second visit.

However, the newspaper reported at the time that she was hoping to attend one of the Prince’s engagements in Brazil to give him another lesson in dancing once more.

An Instagram account named _royalsofeurope, which shares content of the European royals, recently published the resurfaced clip from the event.
