New research has revealed which British royal spent the most on clothes in 2024 – with a surprising member of The Firm coming out on top.
Style blog UFO No More recently analysed the wardrobes of 20 royal women across Europe before ranking them from most to least expensive.
The royals on their list included Princess Charlene of Monaco, the Princess of Wales, the Duchess of Edinburgh, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Spain’s Queen Letizia, the Duchess of Sussex and Princess Beatrice among others.
Only taking into account new items of clothing, the royal watchers broke these down into three categories – unidentified pieces, identified items with known costs, and those where the designer is known but the price is not.
It was estimated that these 20 royal women spent over £1.65 million (around €2 million) on 1,488 new items in 2024, with Princess Charlene ranking first on UFO’s list.
The 46-year-old reportedly shelled out nearly £300,000 (€354,588) on a new wardrobe last year, making her collection the priciest among her European counterparts.
However, one member of the British Royal Family wasn’t far behind the Monegasque princess and ranked higher than both Meghan and Zara Tindall, both 43, on the style blog’s list.
Sophie came in at fourth place after it emerged she ‘spent’ £135,863 (€163,664) on the 105 new articles of clothing that she wore last year.

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan was ranked sixth on the list after MailOnline revealed she spent over £100,000 on never-seen-before clothes and pieces of jewellery over the course of 56 public appearances last year.
Meanwhile, Princess Beatrice, who spent just over £44,000 (€53.297) on 57 new items of clothing, was placed 15th – three places ahead of her sister Princess Eugenie.
The total cost of Eugenie’s new clothes in 2024 totalled £27,427 (€33,069) while the Princess of Wales – who stepped back from public life to receive chemotherapy treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer – spent just over £10,000 (€12,977).
Since taking on the title of Duchess of Edinburgh in March 2023, Sophie’s style has been dramatically transformed – with the mother-of-two turning to Kate for fashion inspiration.
Over the years, Sophie has developed a fondness for muted hues, floral prints, and matching millinery sought-after designers that has translated into a slew of sartorial wins for the royal.
She was the epitome of elegance at the Royal Ascot in 2023, when Sophie wore Suzannah London’s ‘Allison’ dress, featuring a 1940s-inspired fit-and-flare silhouette and a beautiful bow-effect neckline.
She embraced utilitarian chic for a visit to the Charfleet Book Bindery in Canvey Island in June 2023, with Sophie opting to wear an army-green trench dress from Kate’s go-to designer Alexander McQueen.
Sophie demonstrated her ability to combine colour at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May, when she donned her Aspiga ‘Victoria’ corduroy dress and Paige ‘Tawni’ jacket for the third time
Known as the royal family’s ‘secret weapon’, Sophie delivered a series of standout outfits in 2024 – including her chic ensemble for the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May when she expertly combined her Aspiga ‘Victoria’ corduroy dress with her Paige ‘Tawni’ jacket.
Meanwhile, celebrity stylist Alex Longmore declared Princess Anne’s daughter Zara the best-dressed British royal in 2024.
She told MailOnline: ‘Zara’s style has taken off stratospherically in the last year. She always looks amazing.
‘She has a style formula and sticks to it. For royal occasions, she chooses belted tea dresses, in bright colours, often with dramatic sleeves.
‘She looks stunning, a far cry from jodhpurs and mucking out gear!’
One of the equestrian’s standout looks from 2024 was the burgundy trouser-suit that she picked for Kate’s comeback Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey last month.
Among the European royal ladies, Princess Sofia of Sweden also splurged on a new wardrobe comprising 97 new pieces that reportedly cost £101,562 (€122,452) in total.
Her sister-in-law and the wife of Prince Carl Philip, Crown Princess Victoria acquired new clothes worth nearly £68,000 (€81,717).
Ranked 12th on the list was Queen Maxima of the Netherlands after the value of her clothes was estimated at around £50,000 (€59,726), followed by Queen Letizia of Spain and Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit.
