Rochford residents urged to register to vote in local elections

Rochford District Council is reminding voters in the district that they have until midnight on Monday April 19 to register to vote in the local elections on May 6.

Elections for Essex County Council, the County’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, District and Parish/Town Council elections are planned to be held on that day.

Although things may change, the council is urging Rochford voters to think ahead. As a result of the coronavirus pandemic voters are encouraged to think about voting by post and to get organised by registering for a postal vote early especially if they are clinically extremely vulnerable or are otherwise at high risk.

Royal Mail has 35,000 Priority Post Boxes, these boxes have late collection times, with 98 per cent of the having a collection time of after 16.00. In many cases these Priority Post Boxes will also have an earlier collection as well, collections between 15.00 and 17.00 on both Saturday and Sunday.

These Priority Post Boxes were introduced to help with the collection and onward delivery of COVID Test Kits, as well as election’s mailing. To find a priority box in your area please visit www.royalmail.com/priority-postboxes .

At present the council is unable to accept digitally signed applications but you may scan your form after you have signed it.
