Ross-on-Wye Post Office in the Maltings has a 2.1-star rating based on 64 Google reviews, with some customers saying they “consistently have problems at this post office” and that they “felt very uncomfortable”.
But the post office managers have replied to several reviews saying the complaints are merely “porky pies”.
One reviewer, Gill Richards, wrote: “Probably the least helpful place ever. I won’t go again, I’d rather drive miles than ever set foot in this hostile place. Nice shop, that’s all you can say.”
A manager replied: “We will apologise if it’s our fault but not for porky pies”.

Another customer, named Jo, said: “Appalling. Customers are your income. At least smile and be courteous.”
A manager again accused them of telling “porky pies”.
When a manager told one customer, Patricia King, that she was “saying porky pies”, she responded: “There are many, many of us that are saying the same. Are we all fibbing?”
In response, a Post Office spokesperson told the Hereford Times: “This branch has received both bad and great reviews from customers.
“We apologise if the standard of customer care has fallen short of our expected standards. We are always sorry to receive negative reviews but we welcome feedback. We will look further into the issues raised.”

Another review by Thomas Williams says: “The Ross-on-Wye Post Office is one of the few remaining larger post office branches that offers a good old fashioned post office service with great customer service.
“Most other larger branches have had self service tills installed, run by one staff member with a “computer says no” attitude. Not Ross! Ross still has a counter and still has staff that are willing to help.”
