Rovers make strides with Coventry appointment

Pitching In Isthmian League North outfit, Great Wakering Rovers have appointed John Coventry as their new first-team manager.

During an 18-year stint at the Rovers’ Essex rivals, East Thurrock United, Coventry took charge of more than 700 matches overseeing the most successful period in the Rocks history, achieving promotion to the National League South.

Chairman, David Patient was clearly delighted to bring Coventry’s wealth of experience to Burroughs Park: “We look forward to the breadth of experience John will bring to the club over the coming seasons,” he enthused.

“I’d like to thank Glenn Robson for his time as Interim Manager, fulfilling his commitment to the club until we found a suitable replacement for Stephen Butterworth. We wish him the best for the future.”

Meanwhile, Essex Senior League strugglers, Southend Manor have confirmed that former Hullbridge Sports chief, James Wakeling has replaced Ryan Gordon in the Southchurch Park hot seat.
