Royal Ascot early weather forecast as Met Office gives verdict on if it will rain

Royal Ascot kicks off next week with racing beginning on Tuesday June 20 until Saturday June 24. The weather has been exceedingly hot in the last few days with Tuesday and Wednesday (June 13 and 14) experiencing temperatures of nearly 30C.

As we move towards the weekend the temperatures start to cool somewhat, with Saturday, Sunday and Monday expected to see temperatures in the mid 20s. Ascot Racecourse has anticipated that there could be up to 300,000 people across the five days.

Of the big races, the St James Park, the Gold Cup and Coronation Stakes, the Gold Cup is anticipated to be the most popular with 70,000 racegoers attending on Thursday, June 22. This is seen as the key race of the week by man spectators.

But eyes will also be on the weather forecast for those attending and planning their day. The Met Office’s forecast has offered an early insight into what could be expected overhead at the racecourse.

When racing kicks off on Tuesday there’s a possibility of some spells of rain, with temperature also dropping to just above 20C. Tuesday and Wednesday (June 20 and 21) are the most likely days that could be affected by potential rain showers.

Later on in the week, temperatures are expected to increase to mid 20s, with Saturday – the last day of racing – potentially seeing weather reaching 30C.

The Met Office long range forecast for the South East for June 18 to 27 says: “From Sunday into early next week, there is an increasing risk of more widespread rain or showers for a time, which likely turn heavy and thundery at times. Temperatures again warm and feeling humid overnight, and very warm or hot by day in between any showers.

“Further ahead, a continuing risk of heavy showers and thunderstorms at times in the south and west, whereas further north and east there should be some more reliable drier interludes, then perhaps becoming more generally a little more settled by the end of this period. Warmer than average temperatures overall, with hot days even in wetter areas and continued humidity at night.”
