Have you ever wanted the chance to work for the Royal Family in the nation’s magnificent palaces and estates? Well, there might just be the opportunity available to you.
Six jobs are currently being advertised by the Royal Household ranging from a senior operations engineer to an assistant curator of books, coins and medals. All of these roles are either at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle, so they’re not too far to travel to from most parts of London.
Despite the mass wealth the Royal Family have accumulated, some of these roles pay salaries many would struggle to live off due to London’s steep cost of living. However, the Royal Household are offering plenty of perks and some hefty salaries for people with the right skills.

Research and Government Liaison Officer – £30k
In this role you’ll support senior members of the Royal Household by carrying out research. The position involves contributing to policy-making decisions and reviewing records are maintained.
Deadlines in the role at Buckingham Palace will be challenging, as it will “stretch and develop your skills.” The Royal Household is looking for people educated to a degree level who have experience working in a relevant environment and a proven interest in research and analysis.
You must also have an excellent grasp of current affairs in order to make informed recommendations. The salary for the role is £30k and work 37.5 hours per week.
Warehouse Operative – Driver – £21,547
Here you’ll work with the team at Windsor Castle which process more than three million items per year. The role will include the movement and distribution of goods in the warehouse.
The Royal Household says experience in a warehouse is ideal, but it’s most interested in teamwork skills. Category C1 license and CPC card are essential.
The annual salary for the role is £11.05 per hour at 37.5 hours per week between Monday and Saturday, equivalent to earning £21,547 per year.
Sustainability Data Reporting Manager £45-50k
As part of the Royal Family’s efforts to boost sustainability, this role is focused on reducing its impact on the planet. The household is looking to achieve carbon zero status so you’ll be speaking to people across the organisation about how it runs as a whole.
This will involve setting new targets and monitoring the impact of each department on the environment. The salary for the role is between £45-£50k and you’d work 37.5 hours per week from Monday to Friday at Windsor Castle.
The employer is looking for a natural communicator and highly organised. Applicants should be experienced in creating reports and presenting complex information in a variety of ways, to a suit a range of audiences.
Visitor Services Manager – £40k
The role is all about improving the experience of people visiting Buckingham Palace, The Queen’s Gallery and more magnificent London venues. This involves managing customer care and guided tours, while ensuring security runs smoothly.
It will involve leading a large front-line team which are the face the the Royal Collection Trust. Your biggest challenge will come with the Summer Opening of Buckingham Palace. Each year, you’ll lead a year round project to recruit and train 300 individuals so they are ready to welcome the public to the famous State Rooms.
You’ll be an integral part of the management team for this large scale operation, collaborating closely with colleagues across the organisation as you help to balance the use of the Palace as an official residence and as an international visitor destination.
The employer is looking for an exceptional people manager who is organised and can remain calm under pressure. The positions pays £40k per year, working 37.5 hours a week between Monday and Friday.
Assistant Curator Books, Coins and Medals – £26-27k
Based at Windsor Castle, this role involves displaying and sharing the historic collections on offer at the historic site. In particular, you’ll focus on the collection of coins, tokens and other forms of money.
Reporting to the Senior Curator, you will ensure that the numismatic collection is catalogued, preserved and stored to the highest standards possible. You’ll be responsible for the timely processing of new acquisitions, their photography and publication.
The Royal Household is looking for someone with a degree who has curatorial experience working in an academic, library or museum environment. You’ll need extensive knowledge of working with historic collections of books, coins and medals as well as awareness of their conservation and storage requirements.
The role pays between £26-27k working 37.5 hours per week.
