Royal Family LIVE: Charity boss makes ‘play the victim’ swipe after Prince Harry quits | Royal | News

Prince Harry resigned from Sentebale, the charity he co-founded nearly two decades ago, amid a leadership fallout that has now escalated into a war of words.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, established Sentebale in 2006 alongside Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, but the two princes confirmed they had stepped down in support of Sentebale’s trustees, who recently resigned en-masse after tensions erupted with the charity’s chair, Dr Sophie Chandauka.

Now in a bombshell statement to the Daily Mail, Dr Chandauka alleged there was a “cover up'” going at the charity, blasting “weak executive management, abuse of power, bullying, harassment, misogyny, and misogynoir [discrimination against black women]”.

She also took a swipe at “people in this world who behave as though they are above the law and mistreat people” adding they “then play the victim card and use the very press they disdain”.

She added: “Everything I do at Sentebale is in pursuit of the integrity of the organisation, its mission, and the young people we serve. My actions are guided by the principles of fairness and equitable treatment for all, regardless of social status or financial means.”

According to The Times, the charity is now the subject of a Charity Commission investigation. A spokesman for Sentebale said that Sentebale had carried out a “restructuring” of its board as “confirmation of its strategy to redeploy senior roles to be proximate to most of the team and programmes in southern Africa”.

They said: “We can confirm that we are aware of concerns about the governance of Sentebale. We are assessing the issues to determine the appropriate regulatory steps.”
