Prince Harry has declared he is heartbroken after he quit the African charity he set up in honour of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales following a boardroom battle.
The Duke of Sussex founded Sentebale in 2006 with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to help young people and children in southern Africa, particularly those living with HIV and Aids.
But he announced his decision to quit after several trustees have left the organisation in a dispute with the chairwoman of the board, Dr Sophie Chandauka, having requested her resignation.
In a bombshell statement to the Mail, Dr Chandauka alleged there was a ‘cover up’ going at the charity, blasting ‘weak executive management, abuse of power, bullying, harassment, misogyny, and misogynoir [discrimination against black women]’.

Meghan Markle and Gwyneth Paltrow address their ‘breakfast war’ in shock joint appearance
Gwyneth Paltrow and Meghan Markle have joined forces in an attempt to shut down rumours of a feud between them after the actress and wellness guru seemingly took a swipe at the former royal by mimicking one of her cooking videos.
The Oscar-winner has now addressed the rumours of a rift during an Instagram Q&A after one of her 8.7million followers asked if she was ‘comprehending the Meghan Markle beef that social media says you two have?’
Paltrow, filming in the kitchen of her sprawling home in the Montecito, replied: ‘I genuinely do not understand this at all, whatsoever.’
She then turned her head to ask someone off screen: ‘Do you understand this?’, only to reveal the Duchess of Sussex sat at a table, giggling and eating a piece of pie.
Mark Dyer, Prince Harry’s close friend and ‘second father’ has also departed from the charity at the centre of a racism and sexism scandal.
The former Welsh Guards officer, affectionately known as Marko, has been by Harry’s side since he was 1, supporting him through the heartbreaking loss of Princess Diana and through his time at Eton and Sandhurt.
It was also Marko who, in the 1990s, had been an equerry to Prince Charles, and helped co-ordinate Harry’s gap year, travelling with himto Australia, Argentina – and, Lesotho.
In his memoir, Spare, Harry wrote: ‘Of all Pa’s people there was consensus that Marko was the best. The roughest, the toughest, the most dashing.’
The prince was even an usher at his 2012 wedding and in turn, the former soldier was made godfather to Prince Archie.
But now, their professional ties have been cut after Mark stepped down form his role in Sentebale.

‘We’re truly heartbroken’: Prince Harry issues a statement on ‘unthinkable’ row
Prince Harry issued a joint statement last night, which has been seen by The Times but not officially released.
He wrote that he was shocked by the row and emphasisied that the main focus should be on the children the charity has always focused on helping.
‘What’s transpired is unthinkable. We are in shock that we have to do this.’
‘Nearly 20 years ago, we founded Sentebale in honour of our mothers. Sentebale means ‘forget-me-not’ in Sesotho, the local language of Lesotho, and it’s what we’ve always promised for the young people we’ve served through this charity.’
‘Today is no different. With heavy hearts, we have resigned from our roles as patrons of the organisation until further notice, in support of and solidarity with the board of trustees who have had to do the same.
‘It is devastating that the relationship between the charity’s trustees and the chair of the board broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation.’
‘We thank all the trustees for their service over the years and are truly heartbroken they’ve had to follow through with this act,’ the statement added.
Why has Prince Harry stepped down from his beloved charity?
Last year Sophie Chandauka, a Zimbabwe-born lawyer (pictured), was appointed to be chair of the trustees despite opposition from the rest of the board.
A row erupted following a decision to move Sentebale’s fundraising operation to Africa but now, Dr Chandauka alleged there was a ‘cover up’ going on at the charity.
She has criticised ‘weak executive management, abuse of power, bullying, harassment, misogyny, and misogynoir [discrimination against black women]’.
She also took a swipe at the Prince and Meghan, writing in her statement that her work with the charity is not a ‘vanity project’ and hit out at those who ‘play the victim card and use the very press they disdain’.
Prince Harry sided with the trustees in a statement, saying they ‘acted in the best interests’ of the charity.
