Royal Family: Meghan Markle fires ‘warning shot’ at Firm | Royal | News

Meghan Markle has fired a “warning shot” at the Royal Family by discussing her title and maiden name on her new Netflix show ‘With Love, Meghan’, as a royal commentator claims. Speaking on the Daily Mail’s podcast Palace Confidential, Richard Eden said: “They [the palace] interpret this as a warning shot. That it’s Meghan saying ‘Don’t you think of stripping us of our titles’.”

In her Netflix show, which has received mostly negative reviews, the duchess doubles down on her name after correcting her friend Mindy Kaling when she calls her by her maiden one – Meghan Markle. Meghan tells her: “It’s so funny you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know, I’m Sussex now. You have kids and you go ‘No, I share my name with my children.’ I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go, ‘This is our family name. Our little family name.'” Royal editor at the Daily Mail, Rebecca English, added: “Even if that was Meghan’s off-the-cuff reaction, you might look at it and go, it doesn’t come across very well, ‘cut that out’…. clearly she wanted a point of it being kept in.”

The couple, who married in 2018, were bestowed the titles by the late Queen Elizabeth II at the time of their wedding. Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, now reside in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The pair stepped down as senior working royals at the start of 2020.
