Royal Family sombre at Remembrance Parade after Queen forced to stay away in new health concern

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge appears particularly affected by Remembrance Day event and absence of Queen

Whether it was the absence of The Queen or the gravity of the day, the Royal family looked particularly emotional at today’s Remembrance Sunday parade.

The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton’s eyes appeared to be tearful while Camilla and Sophie Wessex were seen wiping away tears during the ceremony at London’s cenotaph.

All three looked sombre with Kate wearing heavy eye khol, Sophie looking pale and Camilla steadfast and deep in thought.

The Queen pulled out of the service at the last moment with Buckingham Palace citing a back sprain. But it has called into question her health after a hospital stay last month.

There has been increasing concern over the head of state’s condition after missing several engagements. Her husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, passed away in April.

It is the first time The Queen, 95, has missed the Remembrance Day parade in more than 20-years.

Prince Charles laid a wreath at the Cenotaph in his mother’s absence. He was accompanied by Prince William and Princess Anne for the service and parade. Prince William looked sombre and tight-jawed for much of the event but managed to smile as he took the salute for elderly veterans passing by in the parade.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson laid a wreath alongside Labour leader Keir Starmer. Former Prime Ministers Tony Blair, Theresa May, Gordon Brown and David Cameron also attended the event.

A two minute’s silence was held to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for their country.
