Royal Family’s six-word response when anyone mentions Harry and Meghan

Gyles Brandreth has revealed the six-word phrase the Royal Family use to deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle comments. He says the family have come up with the six-word response for anyone who brings up the pair.

The former Tory MP turned This Morning pannelist says when it comes to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the response is they “do not crop up very often” in Royal circles these days. However, when they do, courtiers quickly attempt to divert the conversation.

This follows Harry and Meghan’s decision in 2020 to step back from their roles as working royals and move to Montecito, California, USA. Their relationship with Harry’s family has been strained since then, with the couple making numerous allegations about them in interviews with Oprah Winfrey, their Netflix series, and in Harry’s memoir, Spare.

In his book Voyage Around the Queen, author Craig Brown recalls Lord Snowdon once saying “the Royal Family is quite good at blanking out anything unpleasant or uncomfortable”. According to Brown, this is a tactic they have “had to employ with increasing frequency” since Harry and Meghan’s relocation.

Brandreth stated in 2022: “These days, the names of Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, do not crop up very often in court circles. When they do, courtiers flinch almost imperceptibly and change the subject or, if that’s not possible, refer to them obliquely as ‘persons who live overseas’. Mention the Sussexes to other members of the Royal family… and they simply smile briefly and say, “We wish them all the best” and nothing else.”, reports the Mirror.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have rarely set foot on British soil since their move to the US, only returning for significant events such as Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022. Harry has also made solo visits, including one to see his father, King Charles, after a cancer diagnosis was revealed.

In his tell-all memoir ‘Spare’, Harry laid bare the extent of the rift within the Royal Family, claiming he had “barely exchanged a word” with Prince William during the funeral. Observers believe the brothers haven’t spoken since that time.

Discussing the strained Royal relations on The Royals with Roya and Kate, Royal commentator Roya Nikkhah said: “The family dynamics and relationships here with his father, his brother William, have been shattered, I think it’s fair to say.”

Harry even detailed an alleged physical confrontation with William in his book, where he says his brother “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor”, resulting in a broken dog bowl.
