Royal fans call for Meghan and Harry to ‘star’ in another satirical episode of South Park – as duchess’ Netflix show hits screens

Royal fans are wondering if the writers of South Park are furiously penning a new episode based on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s latest Netflix venture.

Following the debut of Meghan Markle’s latest Netflix show With Love, Meghan, royal fans are already calling for a fresh satirical episode of the hit animated series, which previously mocked the couple in 2023’s Worldwide Privacy Tour.

It’s hard not to see the humor in the situation, given the Duchess of Sussex’s new lifestyle series, which launched on Netflix today, bears all the hallmarks of a South Park send-up.

With its excessive nods to luxury living, awkward ‘tips’, and celebrity-studded yet painfully forced atmosphere, With Love, Meghan could easily find itself in the crosshairs of Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s satirical genius.

The new eight-episode show offers fans an ‘intimate’ look into Meghan’s life, filmed at a rented £5million mansion in Montecito, California.

Each episode, running around 30 minutes, showcases Meghan attempting to make home life look aspirational, with everything from making homemade jam to giving tips on how to pack kids’ party bags.

But the reviews have been anything but kind, and viewers are already comparing the show’s cringe-worthy tone to the South Park parody from two years ago.

In the Worldwide Privacy Tour episode, South Park mocked Meghan and Harry’s penchant for complaining about privacy while simultaneously seeking the limelight.

The episode became an instant sensation, poking fun at the couple’s hypocrisy, with Meghan’s character being introduced as a ‘sorority girl, actress, influencer, victim.’

And though it was all in good fun, the impact was hard to ignore. According to a poll from Newsweek, the couple’s popularity in the US dropped sharply after the episode aired, with Harry’s approval rating falling by 3 percent and Meghan’s by 4 percent.

Fast forward to today, and Royal fans are already calling on the satirical show to spoof on the couple.

One person wrote on X: ‘@SouthPark we need you, we need you now to do another laughable sketch on this joke of a couple!’

Another chimed: ‘There is so much comedy gold being generated from Meghan Markle’s ridiculous ‘teasers’ for her show, and these stupid interviews. I have to think @SouthPark is where the real money is going to be made.’

While a third added: ‘Do a sequel to Worldwide Privacy Tour. Call it Worldwide Disaster Tour to mock Harry and Meghan’s wildfire visit.’

A fourth said: ‘Im watching @SouthPark world wide privacy tour they gotta make one about the ingiftus [sic] games & the recent disaster tourist accusations.’

And one said: ‘i don’t understand why anyone would tune into this show. MM trying so hard. she just loves the camera. southpark got it right with the Harry & Megan privacy tour.’

Royal commentators have also blasted the series as ‘pointless,’ with one calling it ‘gormless lifestyle filler’ that’s so bad, it’s almost ‘compelling’ to watch.

Reacting to the negative reception, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told MailOnline: ‘This, after the Hearts of Invictus series failed to grab viewers’ attention and the Polo series predictably didn’t either, is make or break for Meghan.

‘It didn’t begin well. The trailer was extremely unpopular on social media. The reviews have been excoriating.’

He pointed out that the Sussexes have lost their Spotify deal with no more known book deals, while their charity foundation Archewell is a ‘relatively minor enterprise’.

But Mr Fitzwilliams said Meghan had ‘positioned herself as some form of influencer’ and had success with her lifestyle blog The Tig before she married Harry.

He added: ‘Who will watch apart from the fans? Perhaps a few stay at home moms who can afford the luxury which Meghan obviously worships.

‘At the moment she and Harry can too. However, after spending four hours watching a series as bad as this, one has to ask, for how much longer?’

Mr Fitzwilliams also pointed out that Harry and Meghan’s contract with Netflix was previously ‘useful to the streaming giant as they were also releasing episodes of The Crown’, but that the streaming network will have ‘undoubtedly been disillusioned with the Sussexes’ failure to come up with a money maker’.

While Guardian TV writer Stuart Heritage said the series was ‘so pointless it might be the Sussexes’ last TV show’ and ‘might also be the final thing she makes for Netflix’, adding: ‘Kiss the Netflix deal goodbye!’

He also said: ‘After Harry’s dud polo docuseries, the couple need to get back to giving people the dramatic monarchy revelations they crave – not a Duchess joylessly filling kids’ party bags with seeds.’

The series shows the Duchess hosting glamorous parties and sharing banal tips on ‘self-care,’ ‘wellness,’ and ‘mindfulness,’ all while seated in a luxury mansion. Critics have called out the show’s tendency to over-compliment Meghan on everything from her cooking skills to her lifestyle choices.

The Duchess shared a sweet gift from her husband and children. Meghan shared a photo of a large bouquet of flowers with a special card from her family. 'Congratulations mumma!' it read. 'We love your show, and we love you.'The note was signed 'Lili, Archie and Papa'.

At the end of her new show, Meghan seemingly made a subtle dig at the Royal Family, saying her ‘new chapter’ was ‘part of that creativity that I’ve missed so much’.

The Duchess of Sussex also spoke about ‘healing’ something ‘broken’ after she allegedly struggled to express her true self during her time in Britain.

She closed the last of eight episodes with a speech to guests including her husband Prince Harry and mother Doria Ragland , saying: ‘I just want to raise a glass to you guys.

‘This feels like a new chapter that I’m so excited that I’m able to share and I’ve been able to learn from all of you. So I just thank you for all the love and support.

‘And here we go, there’s a business! All of that is part of that creativity that I’ve missed so much, so thank you for loving me so much and celebrating with me.’

Meghan is also seen speaking to Harry about the party she organised for the show: ‘It’s good, right?’

He says: ‘Well done. You did a great job.’ Meghan adds: ‘Thank you.’ And Harry then says: ‘I love it.’

It comes five years after Meghan and Harry acrimoniously stepped down as senior members of the Royal Family and began a new life in California, which has been followed by a series of barbs about other royals and the struggles they had in the UK.

Earlier in the final episode, while making salad, Meghan – who returned to the US in 2020 – also says of the final dish: ‘It tastes like home, and I’ve missed California.’

In another nod to her troubled time with the Royal Family, in episode five her Suits co-star Abgail Spencer says ‘we’ve all been through a lot’ – then glances at Meghan.

In episode seven, Meghan also spoke about ‘healing’ when she discussed Kintsugi, Japanese art of repairing broken pottery, with her millionaire neighbour Vicky Tsai.

The Duchess told her: ‘You gave me this idea, I think it’s so meaningful, that if you break something that is precious and valuable, it’s not broken. That that fracture, and you taught me this, that that fracture actually makes it more beautiful, that break makes it more beautiful.

‘And I just think that it felt really symbolic of saying to anyone if you’ve been through something, you’re not broken. It can be fixed, it can be sealed and healed at the same time’.

Ms Tsai then says: ‘Or celebrated because it’s what makes you beautiful… perfect isn’t beautiful. Things that have lived and been dropped and put back together again are more beautiful.’
