Royal fans gush over sweet moment Prince William ‘honours’ his wife Kate Middleton during welcoming ceremony for the Emir of Qatar

Prince William appeared nothing short of chivalrous when he encouraged his wife to stand next to King Charles during a ceremony to welcome the Emir of Qatar to London on Tuesday – but gracious Kate knew better than to flout royal protocol.

The sweet moment saw William lovingly gesture to his wife to stand beside his father – before she politely stood back and allowed her husband, as heir to the throne, take up his rightful place next to the monarch.

The clip, captured at the ceremonial welcome at Horse Guards Parade, has delighted royal fans after it was posted to Instagram by @pgeorge.royal – and wellwishers have been struck by the way the Prince and Princess of Wales ‘honour’ each other.

The caption to the wholesome footage read: ‘Prince William honors his wife Catherine so much, he lets her stand with the King and she honors him by letting him stand with the King’.

The moment has attracted almost 1,000 likes while supporters have also left comments praising the ‘beautiful’ exchange between William and Kate, both 42.

One person was touched by Kate’s grace and her obvious respect for royal traditions, acknowledging that she was careful not to steal anyone’s thunder.

They wrote: ‘You can see there even though William asked Kate to be beside the Royal guest, she still insists that William should be on that spot.

‘She follows protocol. Not stealing anyone’s thunder’.

While the Instagram user made a mistake in their post, confusing ‘the Royal guest’ and the King – William wanted Kate to stand next to Charles – their description of Kate is one that others shared.

Another person commented: ‘Her manners are impeccable’.

While a third enthused: ‘Sooo beautiful’.

A fourth person shared their affection for the Prince and Princess of Wales by writing: ‘Greetings and blessings family.’

Kate looked typically elegant in a berry ensemble at the ceremonial welcome for the Emir of Qatar and his wife.

The event marks the Princess of Wales’s most significant royal engagement after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment this year – and she carried the late Queen’s memory with her.

Kate donned a burgundy coat dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen (although recently departed for Givenchy) and matching hat from Sahar Millinery as she met the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar and the first of his three wives, Sheikha Jawaher, during a ceremony of pomp and pageantry in Horse Guards Parade, London.

Her berry coloured outfit echoed the ensemble she wore in Southport in September when she visited families who had lost their three young daughters in a horrific knife attack in July.

The royal wore her hair in a chic and intricate updo as she arrived at Horse Guards Parade flanked by her husband Prince William; and chose significant jewels to mark the significant occasion.

She donned the late Queen’s £30,000 Bahrain pearl drop earrings and her Japanese Pearl choker necklace, both of which were also previously worn by Princess Diana.

After fans noticed earlier in the autumn that the Princess’s engagement ring, which also once belonged to Princess Diana, had been replaced by an eternity ring, Kate wore the sapphire stone today.

In a break from her usual suede pumps in a matching shade, the Princess instead opted to wear a pair of leather berry boots.

While Kate brought her signature elegance and glamour to the event, a notable absence was felt in Queen Camilla, who will miss some of the event scheduled for the two-day visit due to ill-health.

Nonetheless, Kate’s involvement in Tuesday morning’s ceremony was hailed as a ‘positive sign’ of her recovery in royal circles as she makes gradual steps back into public life.

In addition to the official welcome on Horse Guards Parade, she also joined the carriage procession back to Buckingham Palace, before attending a private lunch.

Kate stayed to view a display of priceless Qatari artefacts from the Royal Collection – but she did not attend Tuesday evening’s glittering state banquet.

A royal source described the announcement of the Princess’s attendance as ‘good news’ as the Princess continues with her a slow and measured return to public life after the completion of her preventative chemotherapy treatment.

Kate announced in March that she had embarked on a course of treatment after doctors found evidence of the disease after major abdominal surgery in January.

In September she revealed that this had now been completed but warned that it would take time and patience for her to return to full-time royal duties.

Tuesday’s events marked the start of a busier week for Kate, who will be hosting her annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey on Friday.

The Princess is expected to be joined at the service by Prince William and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
