Royal Mail and DHL suspend post and deliveries in some areas due to Storm Eunice

Postal deliveries are being affected by Storm Eunice – as Royal Mail has suspended deliveries because of severe weather warnings.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “In areas for which the Met Office has issued a red warning, we have had no choice but to suspend deliveries and close our delivery offices.

“In areas covered by an amber warning, we are assessing risk based on local knowledge, and will keep services running where possible.

“We will be reviewing the situation throughout the day, while continuing to prioritise the safety of our staff and customers.”

DHL has also warned of delays, saying: “As a result, parcels for delivery in Scotland, Wales and the South West may incur a 24 hour delay.

“As Storm Eunice moves across the UK, further disruption to services may occur. All efforts will be made to deliver any delayed parcels as the weather improves.”

The news comes as a tower at a power station in Kent appears to have collapsed after being damaged during Storm Eunice.

Uniper UK, which owns Grain Power Station near Rochester, tweeted: “A weather-related incident has occurred at Grain power station, during storm Eunice.

“We can confirm that there are no casualties and there is no risk to the local community.

“However, it has caused some damage on site and the power station has been temporarily taken offline as a precaution.”
