Letter and parcel delivery giant Royal Mail will introduce new changes to their parcel redelivery system from this week.
From May 2, if people are not in their homes when a postal worker attempts to deliver a parcel, they will receive a ‘something for you’ card, reports Yorkshire Live.
This card will detail to the receiver if the parcel has been left in a safe place, or delivered to a neighbour instead. If neither of these options are available to the postie, it will automatically be redelivered the next working day.

This new change applies to parcels that do not fit through the letterboxes of people’s homes, or require a signature upon delivery.
This news has been announced as Royal Mail aim to cut down on the number of people travelling to collection points to collect their parcels.
Delivery can also be organised by the receiver for a more convenient day for them, which will remain a free service under Royal Mail.
The rescheduled delivery can be made to the original home address, a neighbour, a safe place, or to the local post office.
These new rules will mean that it is no longer possible for people to collect their parcels at a local collection point after just one delivery attempt.

Instead, people will have to wait until Royal Mail has attempted the automatic redelivery the next working day, which excludes Sundays and bank holidays.
If the redelivery fails yet again, you will receive another card stating the options you have now. You can choose to organise another redelivery or you can collect your item from your local customer service point from the following working day.
If there is no contact from the recipient, and the parcel remains undelivered, then it will sit for 18 days – 21 days where customs fees are due – and if not collected or redelivered it will be returned to the sender.
